Description

Where does it come from?

Ginger, which scientific name is Zingiber officinale, is a tropical herbaceous plant native to Southeast Asia. For thousands of years, ginger has been valued in this region for its culinary uses and medicinal properties. Nowadays, however, it is also grown in many other parts of the world, including India, China and certain areas of Africa and South America.

The manufacture of ginger essential oil

Ginger essential oil is extracted from the rhizomes of the plant. They are harvested, then dried and ground, before being subjected to steam distillation. This concentrated extract contains the essence and active ingredients of ginger, including gingerols and zingibenes, which are responsible for the oil’s distinctive properties.

For stimulation

When diffused, ginger essential oil spreads a warm and spicy fragrance, often associated with strength and vitality. This spicy and stimulating aroma is known for its ability to stimulate the senses and invigorate the mind. When diffused in the air, the oil can help improve concentration and counteract feelings of languor or mental fatigue.

For digestive comfort

Moreover, ginger essential oil is known for its soothing effects on the digestive system. Diffusing its fragrance can help relieve stomach complaints such as nausea or indigestion. In some aromatherapy practices, the oil is used to create an atmosphere that promotes digestive comfort.

Mixed

Ginger oil is also often combined with other essential oils in aromatherapy to create complex blends geared towards relaxation or stimulation, depending on need. It combines particularly well with citrus oils for an invigorating diffusion, or with softer, calming oils to balance its intensity.
