Where does it come from?

Lavandin is an aromatic hybrid plant, created from the cross between true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia). This hybridisation took place in the fields of Provence, in the south of France, a region that benefits from a Mediterranean climate and well-drained calcareous soils – ideal conditions for growing lavender and lavandin.

The manufacture of lavandin oil

Lavandin essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from the flowering buds. The flowers are harvested at the time of full bloom, when their essential oil content is at its peak, and then quickly transferred to the stills. There, the distillation process allows the essential oil to be separated from the water, isolating a concentrated essence of all the plant’s active ingredients.

When diffused, lavandin essential oil is known for its calming and relaxing properties. Its scent is stronger and camphor-like than that of real lavender, due to its higher content of camphor and eucalyptol. These compounds also give the oil purifying and refreshing properties, making it ideal for cleaning the air indoors.

Particularly appreciated for its calming effects, the diffusion of lavandin oil provides relaxation and serenity. It promotes an environment conducive to calm and stress reduction. It is therefore no coincidence that it is often used in bedrooms or during meditation and relaxation sessions.
