Description
From Nordic forests
Scots pine, or *Pinus sylvestris*, evokes the vastness of the boreal and temperate forests of Europe and northern Asia. This majestic and long-lived conifer has been a faithful companion of northern peoples for centuries, who used it both for its wood and for its resin-rich and medicinal properties.
How Scots pine essential oil is made
Scots pine essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the needles, young twigs and sometimes pine cones. The process starts by grinding the plant material, after which it is exposed to steam. This steam causes the volatile compounds to be released.
The vapours are then cooled to a distillate, with the oil separating from the remaining water. The essential oil thus obtained contains the complete essence of the plant, with aromatic compounds such as pineene, which make it so prized.
A breath of fresh air
When diffused, Scots pine essential oil fills the room with a woody, invigorating fragrance reminiscent of the freshness of pine forests. It offers a stimulating fragrance experience that evokes the purity of mountain air and promotes a feeling of freer breathing.
Purification of the respiratory tract
The therapeutic benefits of diffusing Scots pine oil are numerous. It is known for its expectorant properties, which is useful for congested airways. As a result, it facilitates breathing and is often included in treatments for colds, coughs and other respiratory conditions.
…and your home
